I finally got around to the real world again. Marrying interests with livelihood. A few weeks ago I figured out a series of three workshops I could teach, advertised on a mailing list for artists, and received enough interest to be able to do it. The first workshop was last Wednesday. I called it Expression in Abstract Painting. It was very successful.
I had them do several exercises, the kind where you take yourself less seriously, just experience what the paint can do.
Expression is such a personal quality. It doesn’t necessarily involve wild paint strokes or messy paintings. It can be very refined. I think it is a combination of un-self-consciousness, integrity and blind luck. But mainly being willing to step out and take a chance.
